Week of October 22

I have shied away from the weekly blog due to time constraints and a few other issues, but I will try to get back into the swing of things on a more occasional basis.

It has been a chaotic start to the school year.  I know tensions and frustrations have been high.  We truly appreciate everyone working through some of these changes/issues.

We have several activities on the horizon.

Pumpkin Patch Challenge

Week of April 30

We are rapidly coming to the end of the school year.  As always during this time of year students begin pushing limits.  Please keep your students in the class rooms.  Absolutely no students need to be allowed to go to the gym, fine arts, shop areas or leave campus early.  No students are allowed to go the parking lot without administrative approval.

The last SAT of the year will be given next Saturday May 5.  Please remember no one is allowed in the building from 7am-2pm on this date.

Mr. Patterson is looking for staff acts for the annual talent show.  C'mon guys show the students how talented or untalented you are!  I believe McKinney and Singletary either raised or lowered the bar (depending on how you look at it) last year.

The Trophy Case

Awesome job to the softball team.  They had another solid year making the playoffs.  Unfortunately they lost a nail biter to end the season.

Shout out to the soccer team and coaches.  After the boys made this year's playoffs we have definitely laid the foundation for future success.

Marquell Hale placed second at this year's state powerlifting meet.  Great job and congratulations to Marquell and the coaches.

We still have several students heading towards regionals and potentially the state meet in track.

Coach Nelson has the baseball team primed for a playoff run.  They begin round 1 next week.  Good luck!

The UIL Academic Teams represented the campus very well at their recent meet.

Girls golf placed second at the district meet and advances to regionals.

The boys and girls soccer teams advanced to the playoffs.  This is a first for the boys in quite some time.  Congrats to both!

The Winter Guard held their first invitational last week.  Several students placed in the event.

One Act play represented us well at the district meet and did a fine job displaying their performance this past week.

Congressman Babin was given his own private SHS robotics team exhibition this past week.  By all accounts it was an impressive showing.

Last weekend the Criminal Justice team competed at state and placed second in Disturbance Call.  Awesome job!

Last but not least the Boys Basketball team brought home another State Championship.  It looks like the squad may be favored once again next season.

If we have missed anyone please let us know.

SPRING BREAK!

Friday, February 23, 2018

Week of February 26

This time of year traditionally the students begin getting restless.  We begin heading into a tough stretch just prior to Spring Break.  As an old Silsbee administrator once said, "the sap begins rising." This year is no different in regards to that "sap".

The past two weeks have been a rough period on the campus.  Unfortunately we have had several of our students going through troubling times.  The number one priority of a school is the safety of the students.  When discussing safety it is more than just the physical safety it also includes the mental/psychological aspect as well.  It has truly been heartbreaking with some of the issues.  We are truly appreciative to everyone who has been working with the students and bringing to light some of these problems.  If you believe or are made aware of a student in need of assistance please visit with the student's counselor or an administrator.
In regards to the other areas of safety please continue to monitor and report any suspicious or concerning information you receive.

We have officially reached the 5th six week grading period.  Please have your grades in before noon Monday 2/26.

Week of February 5

Next week marks the T.W.I.R.P. week here on campus.  The student council has several activities scheduled for the students.  The dance is this upcoming Saturday, 2/10.  If you would like to assist please let Mrs. Youngblood know.

Normally I acknowledge teachers for going the extra mile in our kudos area, but I wanted to say how much we appreciate those who stepped up and help cover a few classes.  Between activities, trainings, and illnesses we have been stretched thin on substitute coverage.  Thank you!

We will be getting back to our Enrichment schedule next week.

Spring ARDs are underway.  It is imperative teacher reports are submitted in a timely manner.  This is not an option. If you have any question please visit with Coach Holmes.
